Early Years Sieur de La Salle was born on November 22, 1643 in Roun, France. He grew up in a strict home. He was home-schooled and tutored. He loved geography, history, and religion.
Exploration He started exploring for New France in the late 1600's. He went to explore the Great Lakes, Mississippi River, the Gulf of Mexico, and a waterway that leads to the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Thankfully, he ended up finding the places he was looking for. Only one thing was wrong. The Mohawk tribe told him about a river called the Ohio. But that river didn't lead to either oceans. He died on March 19, 1687 in Texas.
